George Nowak (the Barefoot Man), was born in Germany (or Austria, dependant upon the source) but is already all the a part of the Cayman Islands as numerous locals. He has lived and played there since 1971 after a time period of island hopping which included Hawaii and the Bahamas.
His songs are mainly a risqué parody set to calypso, reggae, country or pop music. When you have seen the film ‘The Firm’, you would then often hear Barefoot’s music. He wrote the song ‘Money, Money, Money’ and is singing from the background while îles Caïmanes plage location was dancing.
Barefoot not simply writes and performs his own songs, he also owns the record company that records and sells his CDs (seen in most stores on Grand Cayman). He has also branched out to The Bahamas, where certainly one of his albums was in the Top Ten for four years.
His songs include ‘Ship Faced’, ‘Ship Song’, ‘Save the Lap Dance for Me’ and ‘Thong Gone Wrong’. Also, he sings about Cayman current affairs and wrote ‘The Gay Cruise Ship Song’ once the visit with a Gay Cruise. One reviewer stated how the Barefoot Man won a Grammy Award for ‘Gone Coconutz’, which had been written after 85dexrpky devastating Hurricane Ivan, although I actually have been not able to find this album or artist placed in the Grammy Archives.
No Cayman Islands holiday is complete without catching a show from the Barefoot Man. He can be found on the Reef Hotel every Tuesday and Thursday night. The Reef is definitely the only 100% beach front hotel on Grand Cayman.
