My Little Man Ben 10/05/07-04/06/07

« on: March 09, 2010, 07:39:44 PM »

I have been asked to speak at a conference on Monday eeeek!! It is for pallative care workers in the Yorkshire region. I am soooo nervous! Basically the team that supported us when we brought Ben home rang me and asked if i would go along and give a speech on my experiance of palliative care then have my input, as a parent, throughout the day of workshops etc. I'm meeting with a lady on thursday to go through the day in more detail. The team we had were amazing, they work with children in the area with life limiting and life threatening conditions, which sadly involves alot of end of life care, as they provided for Ben. A part of me thinks what the eck have i said yes for argh lol, but of course i'll always do whatever i can to help them, it'll also be experiance for my own nursing dream and a free night in a posh hotel with a posh dinner is a bonus lol. Anyway, i wanted to mention it as i'm going to be talking about, i guess you could say what i found important/helpful/useful etc regarding the care provided etc. If anyone has sadly experianced pallative care i wondered if there was anything you think would be helpful to mention from your experiance? Sadly this room of professionals will provide care to many more children and since losing ben and wanting to pursue a career in nursing i've always said something i can bring from bens life and death is making a differance to others sadly in the same position. Pm me if you don't want to share anything on here. Thanks in advance x

I am sorry I don't have any experience of palliative care.  I am sure you will give a wonderful presentation you are such a special person.

Take care

i don't have much experience either.
the day that Dyfan died the consultant said that they were withdrawing intensive care and would only offer pallative care.  this is when they stopped all medication apart from morphine for pain relief and took him off the ventilator.
Dyfan only lived for an hour after this.

you will give an amazing speech
